(Business in Cameroon) - With the insufficient energy supply in Cameroon, attention is increasingly being focused on renewable energy, especially solar, biogas and biomass to bridge the demand/supply shortfall.

There are two Chinese-sponsored projects; one on the 1.5 billion 409 solar panels to light Ngousso and Soa which the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Basil Atangana Kouna laid the foundation stone late September. There is also another one for the construction of a solar plant to produce 500 MW of energy for the electrification of 1,000 localities in the country. Added to these is another project code-named, “mini centrales solaires photovoltaïques” to produce 500 MW of solar for the rural milieu.

Concerning biogas, there is the Kribi Gas Fired Plant that is already producing 216 MW of energy in the country. There are also biomass project that is using household wastes to produce clean energy.
