(Business in Cameroon) - According to estimates from the Cameroonian ministry of Posts and Telecoms, over 220 operators are working illegally in the courier and money transfer sector in the country. “This negatively affects the service quality for consumers and the interests of the State”, the Minister of Posts and Telecoms, Minette Liboim Li Likeng (photo), indicated during a meeting organised on 13 January in Yaoundé, to clean up this sector.

In reality, we learned, apart from Campost, the public postal service company, almost all the courier and money transfer companies that are spreading throughout the cities of Cameroon have not yet met all the requirements of the legislation in force on this subject.

Even though numerous operators have indeed submitted their application to the appropriate departments at the ministry of Posts and Telecoms, only 13 have received their “temporary approval”, while many more have already been formally notified for not paying the deposit since submitting their application. Meanwhile, they have opened and freely started operations.
