“(Business in Cameroon) - Issues and challenges in the Cameroonian poultry sector”. This is the general theme of the 2nd edition of the International Poultry Fair of Yaoundé (SAVI), which opens today 26 October 2016 in the Cameroonian capital. Organised by the government, in partnership with the Cameroonian Poultry Association (IPAVIC), this promotional event is taking place in a difficult context for the national sector.

Indeed, Cameroon is struggling to pick itself up from a bird flu epizooty which broke out in May this year in Yaoundé and spread to other regions in the country. The fallouts of this epizooty were disastrous for all the players in the national poultry sector.

According to estimates from IPAVIC, the losses suffered by the sector were around the FCfa 16 billion mark. This trade association even fears the unavailability of chicken on the Cameroonian market during the upcoming end of year period.
