(Business in Cameroon) - Phase II Yato, a water scheme is expected by 2014 to pump a further 100,000 m3 of drinking water to Douala, the management of Camwater, the country’s water utility company said in a statement after a visit to the site last Saturday.
July 6, the Camwater’s Board chair, Jerome Obi Eta, the GM, Jean Williams Sollo and board members visited the project.
Efforts to improve on the quantity and quality of water in economic capital, Douala started in 2009. Phase I cost about 18 billion F (an 11 billion loan from Exim Bank of China, and 7 billion from the Camwater).
The second phase, underway, is funded through a loan of 44.605 billion francs CFA from the same.
Portable water needs of Douala total 250,000m3/day. And, the gap should be bridged through the provision of urban drillings in Massoumbou and Japoma, towns close to Douala.
