(Business in Cameroon) - FCfa 2,800 instead of FCfa 3,500. This is the price range for a 50 kg Dangote cement in the northern regions of Cameroon, against FCfa 4,500 to 4,600 in the south of the country, local sources revealed. This situation, we learned during a recent meeting at the Ministry of Commerce, is the consequence of the smuggling activity suffered by this producer’s brand of cement in northern Cameroon.

Indeed, we learned, important cargoes of Dangote cement sold in this area of Cameroon come directly from Nigeria, despite the ban on imports of cement in Cameroon, taken by the public authorities following the commissioning of three new production units in the country.

According to our sources, many businessmen and other entrepreneurs, who transport on motorbikes, important quantities of cement from Nigeria to sell it on the market in the north and even in eastern Cameroon. In collusion with local customs officers in charge of monitoring a porous, 150-km long border.
