(Business in Cameroon) - In a communiqué signed on 17th July 2016 by the General Secretary of the Office of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, “the President of the Republic of Cameroon announces the liberation of Mister Abakaï Mama, Mayor of Lagdo and his other ten associates kidnapped during the night of 19 to 20 March 2015 in the towns of Gbabio and Yoko-Siré, in the Eastern region, by an armed Central African group”.

During their 16 months of captivity, this group of hostages, the communiqué highlights, lost two members. These are Youssoufa and Néné Jacqueline, whose passing occurred respectively in January 2016 and on 11 July 2016, and for whose deaths no details were issued. Since the start of the political crisis in the Central African Republic in 2013, Central African armed groups have committed several crimes in the Eastern region of Cameroon, which shares a border with this country where stability has been gradually coming back since the end of the transition a few months ago.
