(Business in Cameroon) - The tax on telephone communications and internet services established by the 2016 Finance bill, and for which telephone operators and internet access providers are now liable, should generate revenues of FCfa 10 billion during the first year of its enforcement, we learned from authorised sources.
According to the authorities, in addition to binding Cameroon to the regulatory measures which this tax establishes in the CEMAC area, the new telephone communications and internet services licence fee will enable the Cameroonian Public Treasury to get more benefits from the development of the mobile telecommunication and internet sectors in the country.
It should be noted, over the 2010-2014 period, mobile telephone operators in activity in Cameroon paid FCfa 617 billion in taxes to the Treasury, according to statistics from the Ministry of Posts and Telecoms.
