(Business in Cameroon) - As part of the gradual transfer of responsibilities and resources which aims at strengthening the decentralisation policy in Cameroon, the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Livestock Production (Minepia in French) will transfer to the local authorities of the country, a global amount of FCfa 2.7 billion in 2016, Minister Taïga (photo) just announced.

Using these funds, local authority executives will have to continue the actions of Minepia on the ground, including putting in place projects to strengthen animal production, the promotion of fish farming, monitoring of fishing activities and animal health.

It should be recalled, though a big producer of beef, Cameroon still imports a big share of the fish consumed in the country. According to official statistics, these imports cost approximately FCfa 100 billion every year.
