(Business in Cameroon) - New Managing Director at AES Sonel, the energy production and distribution company in Cameroon, Joël Nana Kontchou (photo), has made the customer his number one priority. He hopes to “explore the wide range of opportunities that are available through phone applications and the internet to integrate mobility and increase [the company’s] responsiveness. We want things to be better and faster,” he revealed during an interview with the government daily publication.

Indeed, he goes on to say that mobile services and the internet in Cameroon are instruments that can enable the company to quickly reach as many customers as possible easily. “Today, close to 15 million Cameroonians have a cellular phone. With the constant slip in mobile terminuses, more and more Cameroonians are using the internet via their cellular phones,” he indicated to explain the reasons for the ICT decision to improve relations between the electricity company and its customers.

AES Sonel, which was bought by the Actis British Investment Fund, is planning to invest 170 billion FCFA in the electricity sector in Cameroon for the period 2014-2018. Out of this five-year sum, 30 billion FCFA will be used to improve the company’s commercial activity, including customer relations.
