(Business in Cameroon) - In a note on the Cameroonian cement sector, published recently by the ministry of economy, it is revealed that the demand for cement will rise considerably thanks to the implementation of various major projects (ports, dams and roads) and the construction of infrastructure built in the framework of AFCON2019.

The average annual growth is estimated at 10%. In anticipation to this growth, some cement companies are increasing their production capacity”, the ministry indicates.

The ministry also indicated that CIMENCAM, a subsidiary of Lafarge Holcim, is planning to build a 500,000 tons cement unit at Nomayos, Yaoundé. This plant could be completed in 2019 and thanks to this, the company’s production capacity will reach 2 million tons.

As for Dangote Cement Cameroon, it has launched the construction of a 1.5 million tons plant in Yaoundé. With this, its overall production capacity will be 3 million tons. As far as CIMAF is concerned, it is upgrading its Douala based plant to increase its capacity from 500,000 tons to 1.5 million and the work should be completed by 2019.

Let’s recall that in view of the projected installation, the ministry of economy reveals that by 2019, Dangote Cement S.A will be leader of the cement market with 45% market share, followed by CIMENCAM (30%), CIMAF (22%) and MEDCEM (3%).
