(Business in Cameroon) - By re-adjusting the list of people affected by the construction of the Deep Seaport in Kribi, Ocean Division of the South Region and who were supposed to be compensated for the damages caused their property, the government has saved about 9 billion FCA Francs, Cameroon Tribune has reported.

The first compensation was evaluated at over 23 billion CFA Francs but after re-adjusting the list, 14 billion was retained as the total amount needed to carry out the entire compensation of the affected families.

The compensation exercise that was suspended as a result of numerous complaints resumed on Thursday September 12, 2013. According to the Minister of State’s Property and Land Tenure, Jacqueline Koung à Bessiké, who chaired the compensation ceremony, the over 700 affected families were to be paid progressively.

In a visit to the project site on Tuesday August 6, 2013 to evaluate the state of advancement, Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang said, “This is an example of the Greater Achievements programme of the President of the Republic. We don’t need to make any other comment   for this is the way to the future.”
