(Business in Cameroon) - The Union of Hotel and Tourism Industry Employers (Spiht) launched Tuesday a digital platform to promote their sector and showcase the tourism wealth of Cameroon.

Called Waka Waka 237, this platform is a kind of marketplace that will help visitors find and book hotel rooms, apartments, restaurants, tourist sites, and travel agencies all over the country. It also gives information about ongoing or future tourism projects carried out by private and public promoters.

Via this new tool, Spiht seeks to attract more than 3.5 million visitors in the medium term and make Cameroon a leading tourism destination on the continent, we learn. The development of this platform was kicked off in March last year, with financial support from the Cameroon Competitiveness Support Facility (Dacc). The latter is an instrument of the Cameroon-European Union (EU) cooperation whose objective is to improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and very small enterprises (VSEs) under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

In addition to the hotel and tourism sectors, the Dacc supports other sectors such as agri-food, cosmetics, printing, etc.
