(Business in Cameroon) - In 2017, total pre-tax revenues declared by electronic communication operators peaked at CFA596.133 billion, up CFA18.55 billion (+3.21%) compared to the previous year, the telecom regulatory agency (ART) informed in its 2017 reports.

“The 3.21% growth is the result, proportionately, of the very strong increase by 51.26% in Viettel Cameroon's revenues over the period, following the improvement in the company’s network coverage and image, as well as an increased number of subscribers,” explains the regulator.

With an estimated contribution of 80.65% in 2017, the mobile segment remains the most profitable in the sector, though the fixed segment improved by 3.15% over the period. This improvement follows an increase in international capacity and a rebound in the retail activities of the incumbent telecom operator, Camtel.

The segment of Internet providers and exclusive value-added service providers reached its highest level since 2013, accounting for 2.62% of e-communication revenues in 2017 (+0.51 point). This reflects the growth in such activities in a context dominated by investment in digital economy and the development of new start-ups.
