(Business in Cameroon) - On June 19, 2019, Cameroon bode its farewell to the former World Bank’s operations manager in the country. In Cameroon since 2015, Elisabeth Huybens grew the World Bank’s projects portfolio in the country from XAF715 billion to XAF1,234 billion within four years, official sources reveal.

“Together, we were able to do things I am proud of. This includes the improvement of schoolbooks’ availability, health service quality and flood defence in the Far North. This is also the case of this transformative collaboration in the energy sector that helped complete some projects and launch new infrastructures,” Elisabeth Huybens said.

One of the flagship projects funded by the World Bank in Cameroon is the Lom Pangar dam in the East. This strategic infrastructure can now help regulate water flow on the Sanaga river where 75% of Cameroon’s hydroelectric potential is located.

Cameroon was also able to complete Nachtigal dam. This partnership with the IFC will help increase the country’s current energy generation capacity by 30%.

Elisabeth Huybens is replaced by Senegalese Abdoulaye Seck who was formerly chief economist for the World Bank in Cameroon.
