(Business in Cameroon) - The 2017 telecom statistical yearbook, recently published by the Cameroonian ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), showed that the ICT production sector in Cameroon is almost non-existent.

As a result, the country remains an importer of telecommunications and computer equipment, and as well, consumer electronics is not yet developed.

In the top five, and in order of importance, China is Cameroon's first supplier since 2011.  In 2011, the Middle Kingdom received CFA11.03 billion from Cameroon in ICT equipment purchases and CFAF147.09 billion in 2016.

France received CFA6.55 billion in 2011 and CFA25.7 billion in 2016. Portland collected CFA11.9 billion in 2016. Hungary received orders for CFA3.9 billion in 2016. Finally, Estonia closes the top five with orders worth CFA3.4 billion in 2016.

The document however specified that a local market for software publishers exists, but is not sufficiently statistically listed. The same applies to IT services.
