(Business in Cameroon) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) Felix Mbayu (photo) announced the government successfully repatriated last October 14 eight Cameroonian women treated as slaves in Kuwait.

Welcomed at Douala airport by the services of the Minrex's protocol and consular office, these women joined their families after completing administrative, health and police formalities. Felix Mbayu hailed the success of this first repatriation phase, which testifies to the excellent cooperation between the Cameroonian and Kuwaiti governments. Six other Cameroonian women are expected to be repatriated in the coming days.

“The Cameroonian Embassy in Riyadh, which has remained in permanent contact with our distressed compatriots, is actively working with the Kuwaiti authorities to plan the voluntary repatriation of all duly identified compatriots,”  said Felix Mbayu.

He added that an investigation by law enforcement agencies to dismantle human trafficking networks to Gulf countries, but also to other destinations, was under way. This investigation has so far resulted in the arrest and incarceration of several smugglers.
