(Business in Cameroon) - An official statement revealed that an inter-ministerial mission led by Cameroon’s deputy minister of economy, Yaouba Abdoulaye, will sojourn from November 13 to 19, 2017 in the far north and northern regions of Cameroon. The aim of their stay is to elaborate a program to develop rice-farming in the said regions.

According to the ministry of economy, this program is to reduce the deficit in rice production as the imports of this cereal are officially estimated at CFA100 billion per year.

In the far-northern region of Cameroon, there is already SEMRY, a public company which aims at modernizing and developing rice-farming in Yagoua. However, this company only produces 100,000 tons while the national demand is estimated at around 300,000 tons.
