(Business in Cameroon) - The National Seed Fund of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has acquired two machines for the production of maize seedlings and vehicles to boost the activities of the sector.

Handing over the equipment to the beneficiaries on Monday November 18, 2013, Minister Essimi Menye assured that they will boost maize production in the country and in so doing, ensuring food safety and security.

This is the starting point and we need to master the equipment. We have decided to start with two and next year, we will have additional machines in order to serve the entire nation. We have an agreement with the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development to produce hybrid seedlings” Minister Essimi Menye said.

Batchenga and Santa will be the first beneficiaries of the machines that will help to treat and package about two tons of maize per hour.
