(Business in Cameroon) - A recent World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) report showed that Cameroonians indeed significantly contribute to their country’s tourism revenues.
According to figures, domestic travel spending alone generated 71.2% of tourism & travel share in GDP in 2017 compared with 28.8% for visitors’ spending. This year, domestic tourism spending is expected to grow by 5%, reaching XAF875.5 billion, almost double of foreign spending. Following the same trend, foreigners’ spending is forecasted to increase by 3.9% compared to 2017.
In the long term, WTTC sees a rise by 4.9% per annum in domestic revenues to XAF1,414.1 billion in 2028 and a rise by 5.2% per annum to XAF581.2bn in 2028 for visitors’ spending.
