(Business in Cameroon) - More than 100 million francs CFA from Japan was announced last week at a workshop on rice in Yaoundé, Cameroon Tribune said last Monday, June 24, 2013.

According to the newspaper, the money that is within the scope of the Urgency Rice Initiative in Cameroon, aims to support the efforts of the State of Cameroon through the production of rice seeds and use of machines in small rice farms and other segments of production.

This project, we learn, is to support rice production up to 2014 by helping farmers to have access to improved seeds and reduce post-harvest losses.

Rice is a stable meal in Cameroon households but the country produces only a fraction of its need, estimated at 650,000 tons. Cameroon spent 96.7 billion francs CFA on rice importation last year.
