Cameroon wants to increase number of jobs in digital economy sector from 10,000 to 50,000 by 2020

(Business in Cameroon) - At the initiative of Paul Byia, the President of the Cameroon, an International Forum on Digital Economy will take place in Yaoundé from 15 to 17 May 2017, on the theme: “How to achieve a successful digital economy in Cameroon”

From official source, this important gathering centred on the digital economy is meant to facilitate the implementation of partnerships between institutions, Cameroonian project sponsors, Northern American companies and national and international investors. “These partnerships would contribute to the development of the digital economy in Cameroon, in accordance with the goals of the Digital Economy Master Planin order to increase the contribution to the GDP from 5% in 2016 to 10% in 2020, the creation of direct jobs from 10,000 in 2016 to 50,000 in 2020 and the increase in taxes from FCfa 136 billion in 2016 to FCfa 300 billion in 2020. The ambition, in the short term, is to turn Cameroon into an African technology leader”, specified the Office of the President of the Republic of Cameroon.

Close to 200 participants including ministers, representatives of African and international development institutions, of the civil society, operators in the digital sector, business managers, investors, academic staff, media professionals are expected to attend this Yaoundé meeting. Among the leading figures and high-level experts, we can list Jean Louis Roy (Canada), President of “Partenariat International”, Sarah Clatterbuck (USA), Director of Engineering at Linkedln, Sergio Lopes (Portugal), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Sitvarius, Jacques Bonjawo (Cameroun), CEO at Genesis Futuristic Technologies, Artur Zang (Cameroun), inventor of Cardiopad, Yannick Nino Njopkou (Cameroun), founder at Kerawa.com, etc.
