(Business in Cameroon) - The Director-General of Customs Edwin Fongod Nuvaga has called for the strengthening of the regulatory controls at the borders with Nigeria. He further instructed his collaborators to seize and destroy both the eggs and the chicks imported from this neighboring country.
The aim of this measure is to preserve Cameroon’s poultry industry that is gradually recovering from the avian flu epizooty which occured in 2016 and in 2017.
It is important to note however that, estimates of Cameroon’s avian operators' association IPAVIC, revealed that the flu outbreak, accounted for a lost of about CFA16 billion to operators which led to a general slowdown in this sector for almost two years and as well led to the shortage of chickens thereby making it costlier in the markets.
