Geneva: Cameroon’s embassy alerts about "violent protest" being planned by its diaspora

(Business in Cameroon) - In a communique dated June 24, 2019, Cameroon’s embassy in Switzerland revealed that some Cameroonian natives residing in various European countries plan to organise a "violent protest" on June 29, 2019, in Geneva. According to the communique, the demonstrators claim they will protest against the presence of Cameroonian president Paul Biya in Switzerland.

The diplomatic representation indicates that it condemns such protests since it honors neither the organizers nor those who are planning to participate. It also informs that it has taken all the useful measures that comply with diplomatic laws and practices and warns the demonstrators against the personal risks they are taking by breaking Switzerland’s laws. The embassy also warns against a possible loss of control due to the planned ransacking of hôtel Intercontinental.

"The embassy invites the Cameroonian community in Switzerland and those residing in neighbouring countries to dissociate themselves from demonstrators who for some time now, have been the faces of hatred, violence and tribalism," ambassador Léonard Henri Bindzi writes in the communique.

Let’s note that some time ago, Cameroon's embassy in Paris, France was ransacked. On January 27, 2019, it was obliged to stop operations "indefinitely".

"A hundred MRC [Mouvement pour la renaissance] supporters attacked Cameroon’s embassy in Paris, France. Scaling the fence, they broke into the building hosting the embassy, destroyed everything and caused massive damages," the minister of communications Emmanuel René Sadi indicated at the time. A while after, these accusations were rejected by the MRC.
